Pack in Advance
Where ever you can use boxes and not carrier or black bags. They stack very well, are much quicker to load and a better use of space. Start collecting boxes a few weeks in advance. You can ask supermarkets and local shops, who will have plenty of unwanted boxes, or we can provide them for you, please see enclosed price list. Start packing at least a week before your move and leave only your last few essential items for the last minute rush.
Label your boxes
This helps the removal men distribute the boxes correctly around your new home and makes it that much easier when you are unpacking and looking for something in particular, like a nice cup of tea / coffee after arriving.
Using open boxes
Where possible try to close and seal all your boxes. This makes it easier for us to pack the van and more cost effective for you. Try not to overfill or under fill your boxes. Overfilling makes the box too heavy for anyone to carry and you also run the risk of the box breaking. Under filling could result in a heavier item being placed on top of it and the under filled box collapsing which could result in your goods being damaged.
Try to distribute items evenly throughout your boxes (e.g. try not to pack all your books into one box)
Putting items in bags
Where possible try to use suitcases or rucksacks to pack clothes into. These are better to use than plastic bags which often tear. If you do use plastic bags try to use the heavy duty refuse or garden refuse bags as they are much stronger. We can also provide wardrobe boxes to hang your cloths during the move, these are free of charge but please mention how many you require when booking.
Pictures and Mirrors
These will need to be wrapped in bubble wrap and taped in advance.
White Goods
We are happy to unplumb these for you but if you want to save time on the day remember that your fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine need to be disconnected / defrosted and drained before your move.
Beds
If your bed can be dismantled please ensure this is done prior to your move as this will save time and space
Flat pack furniture
Flat pack furniture does not travel well so it is a good idea to dismantle it before your move. This will also save space in the van, time and money.
Loading
When the removal men arrive they will need to load the larger items first, wardrobes, sofas etc so please make sure these are accessible and hall ways aren’t blocked.
Unpacking
It is always a good idea to unpack a few essential kitchen items so that you can at least make something to eat and drink even though you wouldn't have unpacked everything yet. It is also a good idea to make your bed so that when you are exhausted after moving and unpacking you can have a good night's rest without then having to find your bedding and make your bed!
